Which format should you choose?
If you need to rewrite the content, convert the PDF to Word: you get paragraphs you can edit, and text-led documents such as contracts and CVs come out close to the original. If you only need the wording, PDF to Text is smaller and cleaner. If the page has to be shown rather than changed — in a slide, a chat or a social post — convert the PDF to JPG, remembering that an image of text can no longer be searched or copied.
Going the other way, convert to PDF whenever the file is finished and has to arrive looking exactly as you left it: a CV, an invoice, a quote, a signed form, or a stack of photographed receipts.
Convert a PDF without uploading it
Most converters on this site are JavaScript running in your own browser, so the document is read from your disk, converted in memory and saved straight back — it is never uploaded and there is no copy on a server afterwards. Conversions that need real office software, such as PDF to Word, run on our server instead over an encrypted connection, and those files are deleted automatically within the hour. Each tool page says which of the two it is, so you always know where your document is.
More than conversion

Is the quality of my file reduced?
No. Images are placed into a PDF at their own resolution rather than re-compressed, and pages converted to images are rendered at the resolution you choose, up to print quality.
What happens to my documents?
Browser-based conversions never send your file anywhere. The few that need our server delete the file automatically within an hour, and it is never used for anything else.
